Leopoldo Aguilar Born on 16 February 1972 in Cebu but based in Manila, Leopoldo Aguilar is schooled at the University of the Philippines Cebu. His penchant for abstract work finds his sentiments and opinion in lines and color. He is also the founder of Neo-Tribalism Movement, Inc.
Qube Gallery Qube Gallery is the emergent Mecca for art denizens of Cebu with focus on contemporary art rooted in the local culture. Their location, Crossroads, is becoming the hub for trendy scenes taking shape in the city, with the likes of Holicow, Abaca Baking Company and The Distillery. They're open from Monday until Friday, 11am until 7pm, and on Saturdays from 12pm until 5pm.
A Different Scene I have to be honest. When I got an invite by Qube Gallery's curator, Bea, to attend its opening night for Leopoldo Aguilar's "Shadow Fragments", art wasn't the foremost thing on my mind. It was more a chance to meet other people outside my current yoga circle. I love yoga and its wholesome community of yogis. But I was looking for something different. Wine was a big come-on too.
Peoplescape Bea said I can put the word out, so I invited Metz (who I fondly introduce as "my goddess") and Ricco for the event as well - two people in Cebu I'm close to. It was good being with them in a new setting. We met a few art denizens as well - Diane from Korea, and her Filipina hostess, Chai (who shares my neighborhood in Toronto). The atmosphere was friendly and light. Qube continues to be the beacon for Cebu's art lovers to gather and nurture its burgeoning art community.
