(July 1, 2023 Lazi, Siquijor Island, Philippines) Friends show they care by giving you what they just harvested in their land. Here, I got a 'piling' of banana from the Yuag household and another 'piling' from Marlon. Sometimes, if your friend is a fisherman, he'll give you fresh catch of the day.
Adobo Bayawak
Adobo Bayawak
(July 3, 2023 Lazi, Siquijor Island, Philippines) A 'bayawak'(monitor lizard) has been breaching Marlon's chicken pen and eating the eggs. He laid a trap and finally caught the culprit. He cooked it Adobo-style and gave me some. I washed it down with tuba. Sorry about the bayawak, but in fairness, the 'Adobo bayawak' was delicious.
Mango Overflow
Mango Overflow
(July 7, 2023 Lazi, Siquijor Island, Philippines) July is mango season. There is an over abundance. High quality mangoes go as low as P25/kilo ($0.50/kilo). Lesser grade mangoes are just left to fall off the tree and rot.
Stand by Me
Stand by Me
(July 8, 2023 Lazi, Siquijor Island, Philippines) These kids don't realize it now, but they are creating the building blocks to a friendship that could last a lifetime. They'd get a kick to see this picture when they're grandparents.
The Water Man
The Water Man
(July 21, 2023 Lazi, Siquijor Island, Philippines) At Lazi Poblacion, he is iconic. He pushes his cart to fetch sea water and pushes the heavy loack back to the market to sell to fish vendors - all day, under the scorching heat of the sun or under heavy rains. Life goes on for him, uncomplaining, like clockwork.
Stray Dogs
Stray Dogs
(July 22, 2023 Lazi, Siquijor Island, Philippines) Most dogs in Siquijor are miserable. When they grow up looking like street dogs and no more the cute puppies that they used to be, they are abandoned by their owners to fend for themselves. They usually roam around scavenging for food. They have scabbies all over and they obliviously walk/sleep on the main busy streets being hazards to passing motorists.
Ending Thoughts Interesting moments...caught on camera.
(July 31, 2023) Pleasant surprises, mangoes galore, heavy downpour....that's July in Siquijor. With the changing of the months come changes in the season and fruits. But lechon remains a constant...more »»

Lite Ferries - at Larena Port, T-Th-Sun, 2:00 am, 5 hours, PHP?
Siquijor - Cebu (Liloan) - Cebu City BUS Trip(as of Jan 2023)
There is only one bus plying this route - Sugbo Urban. Tourist class coach, a/c, comfortable, Sun-Fri (these dates keep changing). P420 for bus, P275 for ferry to Liloan. Larena Port around 5 am, makes a clockwise roundtrip around Siquijor Island - Larena, Enrique Villanueva, Maria, Lazi (stops at Lazi market for breakfast and leaves 6:50 am), San Juan, Siquijor (arrives 8am, P50 from Lazi to Siquijor Poblacion) and catches the 1pm ferry at Larena Port (Sundays at 3 pm) for Liloan, Cebu and resumes its land route. Arrives Cebu City (South Bus Terminal) 10 pm.
Sugbo Urban is the cheapest and most convenient way because it goes around the island (clockwise) along the circumferential road, passing through - Enrique Villanueva, Maria, Lazi, San Juan, Siquijor...and back to Larena where it takes the ferry at 1 pm. This saves you the hassle and high transport cost of a tricycle. Besides, it's a long trip from the other side of the island to be taking by tricycle.
