The Genie is out of the Bottle
There has been a long-lingering talk about quantum computing and how it will change the way we live. It was promising, but it was still plagued by problems - near absolute zero working temperature, isolation from the slightest shock and radio waves and an almost infinite generation of errors. Although eagerly anticipated, most thought it was still decades in the making. Almost without a public warm-up, Google unleashed its quantum computer using the Willow chip. In 5 minutes, it solved a mathematical problem that would have taken the world's fastest supercomputer 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 years to solve - this is longer than the age of our universe! It might as well be the launching of a thermonuclear bomb - indeed, the world would never be the same.
How Quantum Computers will Change the world we live in
Challenges facing QCs
QC is still its infancy and could be a full decade before it becomes mainstream for widespread use. Because not all problems require quantum computing, QCs will more likely augment rather than replace classical computers. Currently, it has to address the following challenges.
Ending Thoughts
When AI was unleashed, I was also unleashed. Suddenly, I had information access at the tip of my fingers - information that might take days to synthesis had I asked the search engines. I could ask very targeted questions that search engines don't even have an index for. With this, I understood the world a lot more. I got a better sense of bearing about this cosmic environment. Now, there is quantum computing. If you augment AI with quantum computing, what do you have? I don't know. But my excitement is up through the roof.
