Stand-up Guy
At a gathering of computer techies in Davao a few weeks ago, I met one of the senior organizers who impressed me as a stand-up guy - articulate, intelligent, forward-thinking and obviously, highly educated. He inspired confidence. We had a brief but engaging talk. I got his card and promised to follow-up on our discussion.
Odd Thing
Indeed, I followed it up with an email. I didn't get a reply. Hmmm...odd. A few days later, I re-sent the email. Still no reply. It was so odd. I just assumed the email address was bad and left it at that, feeling slightly defeated that a promising acquiantance just fell down the drain.
Hello There!
I bumped into him at a cafe by accident. I approached him to say Hi and tell him that I did try to touch base. Before I could say anything, he said:
Stand-up Guy: "...sorry for not replying."
TheLoneRider: (thought bubble: he actually got my emails) "You received them?"
Stand-up Guy: "I did, but I was so busy I didn't find time to reply."
TheLoneRider: "Hmmm...I noticed."
Stand-up Guy: "Can you send it again?".
TheLoneRider: (suppressed eye roll) "You mean to say, you want me to send you that same email the third time?"
Stand-up Guy: "Oh...really? Please send it again. I'm sure I'll get around to replying to it...perhaps on the 10th send."
TheLoneRider: (thought bubble: 10th send? is this guy for real?) "Trust me, we'll never come to a 10th. (giving him a look of disbelief)"
Stand-up Guy: "he-he...I'm just busy."
TheLoneRider: (thought bubble: this guy's a fruit cake) "I noticed."
