Pizza-Making Party in Camotes Islands
GPS waypoint: 10°38'44.1"N 124°22'58.9"E
Location : Camotes Islands, Cebu (province), Philippines
New Beginnings
It's been ages since I hosted a pizza party. Too many things need to align to make it happen - the time, the space, the friends to celebrate with, the equipment, etc. Perhaps not surprisingly, here in Camotes Islands where the pace is slow, allowing me to settle comfortably in a cool niche, people are friendly and unhurried. It lends itself to celebrate new beginnings with newfound friends, Alyssha and Charlotte, both nurses in the neighboring poblacion of Tudela.
Mechanics
Ahead of time, I prepare the pizza dough from scratch. I make the pizza sauce (based on imbao shells) and that's it! Guests come with their toppings and we all take turns making our own pizza for sharing. A nice touch here was tuba (coconut nectar) to wash down the pizza, giving a pleasant buzz to a sumptuous meal.
Alyssha and Charlotte
We all met at Kayla Me, an organic health food eatery by Baywalk. Kayla Me would be our regular watering hole. We got all dialed-in and started making plans. First was the rain-cancelled beach picnic in Tudela. Now, it's pizza time! We learn from each other. They taught me how to give live birth! They're good teachers too in my learning of Bisaya. They're younger than my kids but as Alyssha says, "there's no age-gap".
Ending Thoughts
Pizza partees with friends are fun and cool...you get creative and you celebrate friendship. Next? Overnight camping with the Kayla Me gang at Tulang Diyot over tuba and smores!

Camotes Island FYI / Tips
- Camotes Islands is a group of islands composed of 4 municipalities:
- San Francisco - this is the biggest municipality covering the West major island. Its town center is the busiest with the market, eating places, live music and the Baywalk. The beach resort clusters, however, are concentrated in Santiago Bay, Mangodlong and Esperanza
- Poro - Poro is on the other big island to the East. It has its own port and the town center is likewise busy
- Tudela
- Pilar - this occupies the small north east island
- the busy area where most of the social gatherings take place, eating places, is located at the Baywalk area of San Francisco, 30 mins by motorcycle from the Consuelo Port. Travellers usually stay in their resort outside the Baywalk
- the resorts in Camotes Island are scattered around the island. There are none around the Baywalk area of San Francisco
- perhaps the only downside to Camotes Island is the inescapable deafening sound of karaoke - it is played very loud and it's everywhere. In Baywalk, there are 3 karaoke bars beside each other going full blast all at the same time
