My Love Affair With The Lamborghini
Every high school kid had a poster of the Countach on his wall. I was no exception. It was love at first sight, and this love affair continues to this day.
Miura (1966-1973)
Miura (1966-1973)
When Miura debuted in 1966, it was the fastest production road car and crowned the world's first Supercar. with its stunning looks and mid-engined two-seat layout, it was ahead of its time and put Lamborghini on the automotive map. It was described as one of the most beautiful sports car ever made.
Countach (1974-1990)
Countach (1974-1990)
The first time I laid eyes on a Countach on a magazine cover back in high school, I knew it was love at first sight. Like how Richard Burton described Elizabeth Taylor as "unattainable", I knew it was wishful thinking at best but not entirely an impossibility. Life went on but the obsession lingered.
Diablo (1990-2001)
Diablo (1990-2001)
But many years have passed and the Countach was aging. Like a phoenix rising out of its ashes, the Diablo emerged and took its rightful place as the most exotic production car in the world. The love affair continued. On and off, I would be treated to rare glimpses. Once at the BCE Place as I was leaving Marche, that inimitable Italian roar coupled with a visual feast inundated my senses. Not a moment too soon and the Diablo was gone leaving me to commit only to memory that stolen glance. I knew she was toying with me.
Murciélago (2001-2010)
Murciélago (2001-2010)
Now, with the Diablo gracefully surrendering the things of youth, she paves the way for a younger and equally vibrant Murciélago. Unlike her predecessors, she exudes muted elegance betrayed only by sweeping air-ducts hinting on surging power lying underneath. Her allure is maddening. Ahhh....the saga continues.
Huracan (2014-present)
Huracan (2014-present)
Even as an entry-level Lamborghini in the hallowed pantheon of the Lambo lineage, the Huracan is every inch a Lamborghini. With its sleek aggressive profile, prowler-low ground clearance, poetic mix of smooth contours with sharp angular lines, it more than lives up to being a poster-fication of an Italian adrenaline-injected supercar.
Reventon (2007-2008)
Reventon (2007-2008)
As if Lamborghini has reached the pinnacle of its glory, the Reventon manifests from the hallowed grounds of Sant'Agata Bolognese flaunting its aeronautically-inspired carbon fiber epidermis. With its sharply angled lines and fierce demeanor, it beckons for battle...a warrior who'll take no prisoner and leave annihilation in its wake. If you have the cool $1M to purchase one, despair...only 20 have been hand-built and they're all sold.
Aventador (2011-2022)
Aventador (2011-2022)
The Aventador is a single-purpose car - to overload all sensory perception at the expense of everything else. It's not your everyday car, it's uncomfortable, and it's noisy, but it excites all 50 trillion cells in the body. Visually, it's so stunning, you won't notice a naked Marilyn Monroe pass you by. Its intimidating killer looks is equaled only by its thundering roar. True story, an Aventador was stopped by a cop and the driver given a citation for violating the legal noise limit. This aerodynamic projectile is not for any constipated Joe Blow who can fork the bill. It takes verve, swagger and chutzpah to be a fitting match to this technological marvel.
Revuelto (2022-present)
Revuelto (2022-present)
(Dec 6, 2023) In this technological age when supercars are eclipsed by hypercars and megacars, Lamborghini steps on the plate to show Bugatti, McLaren, Pagani and Ferrari who's the big swinging dick in town. At 1015 horsepower, V12 naturally aspirated engine with three plug-in hybrid high-performance electric motors, price-tag of US$$600,000+ (before options), this beast is over the top! With its low, aggressive and angular stance, its design is pure passion to titillate the senses. It cautions anyone who dares sits on its cockpit if he is worthy. With a top speed of 217 mph, it shreds the Autobahn as it grips corners on any racetrack. True to its lineage, this incarnation is screaming badass and dangerous - the hallmark of any proper Lamborghini.
Ending Thoughts
The lineage continues to the eager anticipation of an insatiable public on how Lamborghini can outdo itself with its next offering. Since Lamborghini captured the public's eye with its mold-breaking forerunners in the decades past, other notable supercars have had to continuously reinvent themselves just to keep pace.
