Tibiao Town Tour on a Bicycle with Vida
GPS waypoint: 11°17'21.8"N 122°02'04.0"E
Location: Tibiao (municipality), Antique (province), Philippines
Vida my Tibiao Guide Vida, my lovely guide from Kayak Inn, took me on a bike tour around Tibiao Town - the pottery, fish spa, the beach and Tibiao Bakery.
getting a ringside seat while Mary Ann spins her pottery
Pottery Making potter: Mary Ann | 0975.717.3201 From the main highway, you still need to go deep into a sideroad to get to the pottery. It is best reached by a bicycle or a motorcycle. Mary Ann, the potter, demos how a clay pot is made using malleable clay on a spinning circular table. But you can also roll-up your sleeve and give it a try. You can also purchase some of what is already on display.
Fish Spa Going further south from the pottery, along the main highway is the Tibiao Fish Spa. For the basic P119 package, your feet get nibbled at by small fishes. You transfer to the bigger fishes for bigger bites. After 30 minutes, they give you a soothing foot massage.
Tibiao Bakery It seems like a regular bakery selling regular bread, but Tibiao Bakery is a hit amongst the locals. It has many branches across Panay Island but the original is the one in Tibiao (of course!). They claim that bread is baked in wood-burning ovens for that extra taste. In Tibiao, it's as close as it gets to a cafe where locals get to sit-in and order other things on the menu.
Tibiao Beach While at Tibiao Bakery, Vida and I were just a stone's throw from the beach. Tibiao is afterall, a coastal town. The beach is not Boracay by any measure, but you if you feel like dipping into salt water, the black-sand beach extends for kilometers.
Ending Thoughts The town offerings of Tibiao are not necessarilly a must-do. But if you are already in Tibiao for the kawa bath or the waterfall, the town offerings of Tibiao would be a worthwhile sidetrip.
