Pokhara is a pleasant departure from the dust of Kathmandu. The place is beautifully located by the Fewa Lake with the snow-covered Anapurna Himalayan mountain range in its backdrop. Pokhara's trendy streets are lined-up with fashionable cafes, restos, hotel and boutique shops. The climate is cool and refreshing.

World Peace Pagoda - a stupa on a mountain top just across the Fewa Lake, 6kms by hike from Lakeside Pokhara, (route map)
Davis Falls (Devi's Falls) - waterfall going down into a 100ft gorge and into a 500m tunnel, 4km from Lakeside, 45 mins walk, NPR 30, (route map)
Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave - enter through a spiraling staircase deep into the cave that continues to go vertically down until you see a slit of light from the outside as you reach the end, inside the cave is a temple of Shiva, NPR 100, (route map)
Sarangkot View Tower - 360° view, best place to see the sunrise or sunset on a clear day, 3.5 hours walk, 12kms, (route map)
Phewa Lake - the lakefront of Pokhara, kayak, boating, view. Lake shore is lined with restos and bars
Poon Hill - short and manageable trek to view the Annapurna Himalayan range

MEDITATION
- Pokhara is similar to Ubud, Bali when you walk along its trendy streets but Pokhara has the lake and the Annapurna Himalayan mountain range as a backdrop
- Pokhara has a cool and pleasant climate
- Pokhara has a Vipassana center, Dhamma Pokhara, by Begnas Lake, just 15kms away
- Pokhara's trendy areas are the Lakeside and the Dam Side, but Lakeside is more intense and fashionable
- travelers taking the bus from Kathmandu are usually dropped off at the Tourist Bus Station

- depending on where your hotel is, it could be a 2km walk. You can take a cab for about NPR 200
- if your hotel is on the Dam Side, you might be able to walk it
- tourist visa up to 15 days = $25, up to 30 days = $40, up to 90 days = $100, transit = $5, and they will accept currencies from 18 countries
- best to register for a tourist visa online (http://online.nepalimmigration.gov.np/tourist-visa). This saves you time, trouble and the hassle of bringing in a picture with you. You get the approved form printed and just show it to the Immigration guys in Kathmandu
- NPR (Nepalese Rupee) 100 = US$1
- nearly every food served is spicy...there is no escaping it
