Netflix

Signing Up
After narrating to Nathalie that I wait a full week to see the next movie showing at the cinema, she suggested Netflix. At P250/month of unlimited movies, it more than pays for itself in the long run. Why not? So I signed up. But having access to Netflix opened up a series of issues I had to deal with.

Netflix
my first Netflix movie was the critically acclaimed, Jose Rizal

Movie Download
I still need the internet to view Netflix movies. To conserve on data-load, it's important to download the movies first and then play it back. This is the first problem - you can download movies on an Android, iPhone, Amazon book and Google book, but NOT on a laptop. Would I want to view the movies on phone? NO, I want a bigger screen. Solution? Download the movie on my Android, then 'cast' or project the content to my laptop.

Projecting on a PC: scrcpy, Miracast, casting
Aided by AI, I tried all the avenues - scrcpy, Miracast. None worked. This was very frustrating.

Seeing my frustration, Nathalie intervened and helped me out. And she did. I didn't realize she could do wonders on the computer. She was able to 'cast' the movie on my android for viewing on my laptop. Yey!!!

No-Show Movie
While I could see some of the movie components on my laptop, like the subtitles, the movie itself would not show. AI explained that Netflix's DRM tool (digital rights management) was preventing this. Solution? Bypass the DRM by downloading a 3rd-party app, AirDroid Cast. I did. Again, the subtitles showed up but not the movie. AI suggested another app, ApowerMirror but the free version only had a casting time of 10 mins at a time. Viewing a 2-hour movie 10 minutes at a time? No way. I downloaded, installed and casted another 3rd-party app, LetsView, and still no movie...sigh!

Third option was to use a USB-C ⇒ HDMI (female) and HDMI cable (male). But when checked, my phone didn't support an HDMI output. Most cheap phones do not support such.

Lining up the Downloads
Making the most of my subscription, I've lined up all my downloads. I asked AI what the most popular Netflix films were, then checked their ratings on IMDB. If high enough, I downloaded them for later viewing.

Ending Thoughts
For now, I'm stumped. I'll have to continue watching a Netflix movie on my phone. Maybe I come upon an Aha Moment that saves the day. Maybe.
