June 2016 BlogsVisiting the White Crater (Kawa Putih) of Bandung (Jun 28, 2016) Bandung is Indonesia's third largest city with an elevation of 768 masl (meters above sea level). It enjoys a cool climate but plagued by crippling traffic like most of Indonesia. It's on the tourist map for its two volcanoes - Kawa Putih (White Crater) and Tangkuban Perahu. From Bogor where I was, Bandung was along the way towards my Eastbound direction in exploring Java. Upon arriving, first stop was Kawa Putih.....more »» Exploring Bogor, Indonesia (Jun 25-27, 2016) I tried, but Jakarta wasn't doing it for me. It didn't make sense to stay longer. There were a few looming possibilities, but the closest one was Bogor. It was highly talked about by a few travelers I met, and it was only 1.5 hours away by a direct train ride.....more »» A First-timer in Jakarta (June 23-25, 2016) As my Malaysian visa was expiring in 1 day, I had to quickly decide which country to go to next. India required 4 days visa processing...too late. Kunming, China was suggested by a yogi friend but at $100 flight, it was too pricey. Bali was also at $100. Using SkyScanner.com, Jakarta was the cheapest at $57 from Kuala Lumpur. Without knowing anything about Jakarta, I was off to this big city in Indonesia.....more »» Layover in Kuala Lumpur(June 22, 2016) Having enjoyed a full 30 days in Kuala Lumpur last year, it now felt like just an uneventful stopover for Malaysia's other destinations. Every place has a personality...a unique way of interacting with you. Penang is not perfect but it's special. I put it up there together with other engaging destinations I've been to. I will keep coming back to this place.....more »» Exploring the Emergent Cafe Culture of Penang (Jun 18, 2016) Complementing Penang's compelling food scene is an emergent cafe culture characterized by chic European-styled cafes with artistic themes fused into the mainstream, adding color, dimension and energy to Penang's already vibrant cityscape.....more »» [an error occurred while processing this directive] Overnight Camping at Turtle Beach (Jun 10, 2016) Over communal breakfast with other travelers at our hostel, Marat, another traveler, talked about camping overnight at Turtle Beach at Penang's National Park. Stoked, 4 of us headed out that same day for Turtle Beach!....more »» Yoga, Pranayama and Meditation in Penang (Jun 10, 2016) With the seaside Esplanade Park just steps away from our hostel, I got to practise yoga with new friends who were themselves travelers and yogis. The session could sometimes stretch to 3 hours. After the session, we would walk to Little India for some teh tarik (pulled tea) and roti canai (bread pancake with curry dip) as a fitting treat. This is how we begin our day in Penang...more »» Daytrip to Batu Ferringhi (Jun 9, 2016) After Georgetown, Batu Ferringhi is perhaps the most visited place in Penang for its beaches. With its long stretch of white sand beach just 30 minutes away from Georgetown by public bus, it's very accessible.....more »» Savouring the Food of Penang (May 27 - Jun 6, 2016) Like Lyon (France) or Hanoi (Vietnam), Penang is synonymous with food.
