a nomad in search of... | |
May 20, 2004 Thursday Ginny finished everything at the UN yesterday and has the whole day to herself. It was nice having a relaxed breakfast with her and resuming our leisurely tête-à-tête by the balcony overlooking the lake and the Jet d'eau. I headed to Cornavin to secure a few last minute items - Swiss Army knife, Absinthe, baguette and white wine for dinner. After traveling with Naomi, I've seen how indispensable a Swiss Army knife is. Fortunately, I got a deal on the Swiss Champ model + case at SF75.00. The Absinthe however was another issue. Apparently, it has only been legalized in the past year due to its high alcohol content (60%?) and not every liquer store carry it. Being a holiday that day didn't help either since most stores were closed. A store keeper said he can get a 1-liter bottle in the underground for SF70.00 but may take a few days. Well, I leave first thing tomorrow. I'll just have to chance on its availability in Amsterdam. As a last-hurrah, I took the 1.25 hour boat ride around the lake (SF12.00) that took us to some of the most prestigious houses/chateaus on the lake coast. It was ok...but not as impressive or awesome as the houses built on canada's Kingston area. It was fitting to have fondue with Ginny as a last supper on my last day in Geneva. We used up as much of our leftovers as possible, making a salad putanesca. ARCHIVE 2025:
