May 21, 2004 Friday Goodbye Geneva We boarded a cab to the airport for a princely sum of SF55.00 (including a SF5 tip). Unbeknownst to me, flights within Europe only allow 20kg per passenger - not 2 bags of 70 lbs. each. My 2 bags weighed in at 42.5 kg. At an extended weight fee of SF75/kg beyond 20, I stood to pay over SF1000 !!!!! The logical thing was to get a smaller bag as a hand carry and jettison my bigger bag with most of its contents. It was a major bummer having to open up my bags, sort out which ones to save and which ones to throw out. Ginny bought a hand carry bag for me and refused to let me pay for it - what class! The flight went well. At our layover in Schipol airport in Amsterdam, we stayed at the KLM Lounge. Ginny was flying Business Class so we (me as her guest, since I was flying economy) were entitled to use KLM's Lounge, which provided unlimited free drinks, food and refreshments. Since I always fly economy that was like a part of a hidden world revealed to me.ARCHIVE 2025:
