![]() February 25, 2003 Tuesday Teaching the yoga class Kiran, my yoga teacher, was nowhere and the class was getting restless, not knowing if she's going to show up or just late. Not wanting to miss my yoga due to Kiran's unavailability, I took the initiative of warming-up the class with the vinyasas hoping Kiran would show up before the warm-up is over. I consider myself a fairly good student, but conducting a class for the first time is a different story. As a class participant, I just listen and the moves come automatically without me having to think or be aware about them. But teaching means being consciously aware of the moves and verbalizing aloud. I kept the talking to a minimum and just asked the class to be forgiving. Fortunately, Kiran arrived before the warm-up was over. I am left thinking however that teaching yoga, a discipline I have come to honor and integrate into my lifestyle, is a worthwhile challenge. Action: I'll watch Brian Kest's video and verbalize after him to acquaint myself with the use of the yoga words. Should Kiran arrive late again, I hope I'm better prepared to teach the class.
