Philippine Connection - July 18, 2002 Thursday Off to Vista Mar Ferd arrived early enough at 8:30AM with his diving mask. Together with Dad, the 3 of us left at 10AM and we were off. The road to Batangas has considerably improved. The current governor made it his resolve to pave what used to be pot-holed roads that characterized the driving experience within the province for the longest time. We stopped by White Plains subdivision to pick-up about 18 pure Texas fighting cock eggs from New Jersey. En route, we lunched at "Gracie's" for genuine tawilis, a tasty fish that can only be found in Taal Lake, a lake within the crater of a now-dormant volcano. We bought along 2 of my favorite treats - espasol and araro cookies. We briefly stopped by a friend's farmland to deliver the eggs for hatching. We helped ourselves exploring the majestic house within the farm and strolled along the vast 57 hectare land rich with fruit-bearing trees - jackfruit, lanzones, rambutan, santol, lychees, etc. The house has been under construction for nearly a year with choice appointments for every piece of meticulously hand-crafted furniture made with rare or antique wood. The drive to our final destination, Vista Mar Beach Resort Hotel, known to scuba divers for boat and top-rate diving equipment rental, took another 1 hour. It was dusk so we passed off diving and instead watched the billiard championship games.
