October 2012 BlogsBeach Life in Roxas, Mindoro (Oct 31-Nov 4, 2012) The resorts lining the beach are more or less for local consumption - nothing fancy, but good value. The interesting thing about the beach resorts here is that even the most modest resort has a swimming pool. Why? If you stick a pipe down the ground, fresh potable water comes rushing out! I stopped buying mineral water and just helped myself to the continuously flowing water from the pipe....more »» Exploring San Jose, Mindoro (Oct 29-31, 2012) I could have stayed longer in Coron to finish more work, but I could not extend my hotel stay. It's usually a sign for me too that I should get moving because there's something out there waiting for me. Next stop? San Jose, Mindoro. I wanted to go there 10 months ago, but a new shipping line to Cuyo changed my plans. Now, I can finally see this place. I took the Bunso boat with no idea what lay ahead....more »» Chillingout in Coron Town, Busuanga (Oct 23-29, 2012) After lazying for days in Camp Calauit, I decided to move to Coron Town to check out what's happening. As inviting it was to dive the rest of the WWII wrecks or do the island tour, my heart wasn't really into any adventure. I just wanted to find me a quiet and comfortable place where I could catch up on my mounting work. Fortunately, I found that place - Coron's newest and most luxurious garden resort hotel, Sophia's Garden Resort...more »» Camp Life in Camp Calauit (Oct 18-23, 2012) After the fund raising project it was normal again at Camp Calauit. With my butt still sore from the traverse ride, the only option was to be lazy on the hammock by the beach...more »» Bike+Hike=Build a School Fund Raising Event in Cheey, Busuanga (Oct 20, 2012) Havng a functioning high school in Cheey is imperative. This municipality is one of the most neglected in Busuanga suffering from a high illiteracy rate because with no school, students have to hike the 5-hour trail across the mountain to Salvacion on the west coast just to attend the Saturday class. They have to cross several rivers, most of them having no foot bridge at all. For this reason, many choose not to attend school at all. Fortunately, there are outsiders who appreciate the problem more than the local politicians...more »» Salvacion-Cheey Traverse (Oct 19, 2012) The trail system from Salvacion on the west coast to Cheey on the east coast of Busuanga goes through the rugged mountain that offers technical riding over rocks, mud, roots, river crossings, steep ascents, fast descents and of course portaging over unrideable terrain. After 2 failed attempts, I now ride with a group that have successfully riden the traverse route...more »» Back to Cebu for the Web Workshop (Oct 3-18, 2012) From Manila, I needed to head back to Cebu to give me ample time to polish and do a dry-run of the web design workshop I was to conduct through MYSTUDIO Cebu. The workshop would give me a chance to go back into 'teaching' - something I miss and something suggested by my yoga friend, Jeanne...more »» «« back to September 2012 | forward to November 2012 »» |
