VistaMar
The morning started early with the family leaving for VistaMar (vistamaronline.com), a diving / beach resort in Anilao, Batangas, about 3 hours drive from Manila. It was a good occasion for me to sharpen my driving skills again, so I took the wheel.

We were joined by the Halili family. Among them was Tito Pidot's daughter, Toni-Ann, a bubbly and very attractive Texan, who's been here a few years. She was a lot of fun.

The beaches don't have sand...just stones and rocks. The drop-off is precariously close to the shore. It's really a dive spot more than anything else. Where the corals come alive is a bit too deep for snorkeling. I'd run out of air by the time I reach the bottom. The rental equipment could have been better (like most rental equipment). I should have bought my snorkeling gear at Price Costco before I left Canada.

Sing-a-long
The evening was highlighted by a karaoke. Everybody took turns belting out a song or two. With a lot of booze, it didn't take long for everyone to loosen up and let the good times roll. It was a lot of fun and lasted until the wee hours. It was a parent's dream: being with their sons and daughters, drinking, singing and having a lot of good clean fun. This is in sharp contrast to some of the scenes I've done abroad - psychedelic gatherings: no parents and a lot of sex, drugs (I don't do drugs but I don't pass judgment on those who do) and rock-and-roll. Again, I don't pass judgment on raves or alternative festivals. It's not for everyone but definitely has its own place.

When everybody turned in, some of us hanged out at the balcony overlooking the beach. Toni-Ann suggested night swimming, but Gold was too hammered to go for it. We were all too loaded up and decided to call it a night... wonderful night.
