a nomad in search of... | |
June 17, 2004 Thursday Left home early to catch ginny's state of the college address. June 18 Friday Workout: gluts, quads, hamstring Looking for French review materials - no dice As usual, couldn't cope with French lessons Went home early June 19 Saturday Workout: pecs, triceps Fete - rained out, the gig venues were hot and humid. I missed altogether Jay's performance at Via Mare due to heat, smoke, congestion, etc. It wasn't bearable. LA and I just went to Starbucks and chatted in the air-conditioned cafe. On the way to meet TJ and Gold, Ross hooked up with us hoping to get a ride home. Nobody offered. She still rode with us until we reached home. She took a cab instead from there. Flirted with Ross while at Dencio's: Me: how do you feel about sharing intimacies with friends? Ross: ok with friends but not with friend-friends. Me: friend-friends? How do you mean? Ross: Well, like TJ, he's my friend-friend. We have a platonic history and we're good friends. A friend on the other hand is someone I know but may not necessarily invite to my birthday party. Me: Where do I fall? Ross: Friend-friend Me: are you saying intimacy between you and me is out of the question? Ross: I'm not answering that. Me: are you saying I should just find out for myself? Ross: I'm not answering that. Me: Maybe we should just resume this conversation when our guard is down Ross: how do you mean? Me: well, alcohol helps. June 20 Sunday Workout: delts, traps, abs, yoga Father's Day - Dinner, Gift Cynric June 21, Monday Workout: lats, biceps Spanish first quiz, still lost in French, went home early to prepare web design Mayu agreeable on new terms, talked about Sumi and Hiroti friends. Lola Clarita died. June 22 Tuesday Workout: calves and abs I went to Loyola after class and went home soon to prepare my lesson plan for Wednesday. June 23 Wednesday Workout: none because I had to prepare the lesson plan for the day 2nd day of teaching: taught usability and web building blocks. I think I did better, being thorough and having more to teach than there was time. My beautiful student (Hanna) turns out she speaks good English too. Ross sat in my class. We moved to room T1, which is smaller and has an air-conditioner. After class, one of my students approached me, with tears in her eyes, asking if she can skip the Saturday class due to the cost of transportation. I agreed on the grounds that she'll show me her work on Wednesdays. I proceeded to Loyola. TJ's friends came in full force. This confirms again that he has the people-touch. Ross stopped by too. I flirted with her again almost the whole time, but I didn't really mean to come on to her. I was just amusing myself. I am no longer interested or even curious. We went to Mister Kebab for late dinner, but also to bring her home. It was 2:30 when we got home. That means no workout the following day for lack of sleep. June 24 Thursday Workout: quads, hamstrings, gluts Sat-in at FR 10-11 with Mr. Requinta. That was a great refresher and confidence builder. I'll be sitting in on a regular basis from now on, which amounts to taking 4 levels of French in one semester. That means I'll be in class continuously from 10 am to 2:30pm non-stop. Time-wise, it may not hamper me too much on my web design class since the latter is getting easier by the session. I'm beginning to feel a connection with my Spanish classmate, Raisa. Although she's not the free-love type, that's ok. I can do with non-contact conversation with someone intelligent and engaging. I went home after class to finish the web project for my web design class. Nicci and Danny (from Toronto) emailed and helped me out by providing course materials and words of support. I didn't finish until 11:30. I wasn't able to show up at Loyola. People probably noticed my absence, but it wasn't a choice. I had to finish the web project materials today in order to put it on the system tomorrow. June 25 Friday Workout: Pecs (flys), triceps, abs I missed FR 10-11 and most of Span 10-11 since I went to Lola Clarita's burial. It was a hot morning. People whom I've known before but can't remember, greeted me. Maybe it's age on my part. I borrowed Raisa's notebook for Spanish and agreed to meet later for coffee and continue our conversation that never gets finished in class. I didn't want to make any move on a student in UP but I couldn't help it. Anyway, when we got together at Kasaa, her boyfriend met us, to my surprise. Anyway, it was probably better that way. I went off to Fine Arts to catch the tail-end of Jig's Artist's Talk and to give Doy the files my students will be working on. At night, Senn treated us to Shakey's. Later, LA and I went to Eastwood to do some chick spotting and to chill over beer. We took a 'condo tour' of the complex. At $3M, I can get a 36.9 sq. meter studio. The problem with Eastwood is the one access to the complex, making it a bottleneck. Another issue is density. With all the existing towers and more proposed towers in the making, I envision a very congested place. LA mustered enough sinew to ask the Coffee Bean place for Abu, his crush since Fete. June 26 Saturday Workout: yoga with Gold Gold took me to Santis, a gourmet-type store before taking me to TJ's jiu-jitsu training. I finally met Ken and Miles. I begged off from their lunch gathering to sleep and recharge for my evening with Mayu. Toyo texted me inviting me to Noel and Camara's bday celebration, but I couldn't change plans. I picked-up Mayu and we proceeded to Cosa Nostra in Malate where we had some pasta. Later, we headed to Café Adriatico for some coffee. We headed towards Nakpil and checked out a few bars and ended up at Bedrock. We went to her place where I spent the night. June 27 Sunday Workout: biking along the UP oval Mayu and I went to North Park to have a congee breakfast. After that, I went straight home, saddled my bike and went to UP to do 10 laps on the academic oval. In the process, I met Ted, Gary and Mark, all of them mountain bikers. They'll tag me along on the next ride. Later, I tagged along with the family to Robinson's. Dad treated me to some socks, handkerchief, board shorts and a white shirt. I setup a wall climbing gig with Mayu and her friend for LA for Thursday. June 28 Monday Workout: delts and traps Mr. Requinta didn't show up for FR 10-11...too bad. For Spanish, Raisa and I had snippets of conversation about existentialism. If not for her boyfriend, I'd ask her to get together for coffee again. Joanna sat beside me for FR 12-13....her elbow occasionally rubbing against mine. Yeah, cheap thrill, but still a thrill. This chick gets me excited. Too bad she's one of those with a boyfriend. Somehow, I relish the fact that I have Ceyline on my left and Joanna on my right. I went to CFA to meet with Ginny about her NGO plan. The Europe grant wont happen in November but in April. She will also host an NGO training seminar in Taiwan in January that will involve my going to Abra and Polilio to acquire "substance", a requirement for the European grant. I guess it boils down to me staying here for the whole school year. Europe seems to be getting farther. While at the CFA, I talked to a few people arranging for me to use an LCD screen for my web design class. I got the consent of Doy and the cooperation of Obet to conduct my Wednesday class at the computer room from 5:30 to 8:30. This goes a long way to making my class efficient. LA and I went to Shakey's after dinner for some shakes and just to chill and scout for chicks. It was a nice laid back evening. Back home, Pacoy and Gold were hanging out as well. June 29 Tuesday Workout: lats, biceps Dad dropped me off UP. I sat in for FR 10-11 and had a quiz for Span 10-11. Raisa and I talked a bit after the test. I think she finds me interesting but not in a sexual or romantic way. Besides she has a boyfriend. We talked about 'ripping the country off'. Her boyfriend dislikes a Korean who hangs out with them to learn English. He would rather he pays for a formal education to learn English. I thought that was high handed since the Korean is not ripping off anyone. What I countered was the UP students, iskolar ng bayan, whose education is paid for by the tax payers, but do not do their best in their academics by cutting classes, coming late, not striving to get high grades, etc. They are the ones ripping the country off. FR 12-13 remains a challenge. I went home after and continued preparing my lesson plan for tomorrow. In the evening, LA and I went to Seattle's Best to have a new place to study at. His friend Mark was there. He went with us to the house where we chatted some more. June 30 Wednesday Workout: calves and quads Spent the entire morning, missing my morning workout (did at night), preparing for today's lesson plan. Senn dropped me off UP. The lecture ended up with me having taught only a portion of what I planned on taking up for the day. Maybe I'm just paranoid that I'd run of things to talk about before the time was up. The students were happy we can finally use an LCD for our lessons. At the end of the class, some students, including Hanna, chilled out for a bit more outside the room. I joined them for a little chit-chat and went home to work out. I wasn't feeling 100% so I didn't do the rest of the muscle groups I scheduled for the day. We watched the 101 Ipon cd of TJ. At the kitchen, we talked about the teacher-student ethic thing. I told TJ and LA that I won't make a move on my students, but if they make a move on me, and I find them attractive, I'll go for it. TJ maintains that a teacher is entrusted to look after the interest of the student and should not take advantage of that position, no matter what. I see where he is coming from. However, to me, there is nothing wrong if there is a meeting of the minds between 2 consenting adults. Nonetheless, if Ginny is put on the spot since she put me there, then that's another thing to consider. Comments? ARCHIVE 2025:
