June 12, 2004 Saturday Teaching Dilemma The spectre of losing my Saturdays and walking away from a web contract due to my teaching obligations weighed heavily on me. An offsite web contract is my only source of meaningful income and I'm close to tapping out. Dad advised that even though it's kahiyaan, I should talk to Ginny and beg off. I completely agree with him. I went to Ginny's place to sort out the matter. We agreed for me to drop the CWTS class and make the Saturdays in my web design course a lab work for the students that won't require my presence. That solves my problem. I get to teach one course and my Saturday is free. That takes a heavy load off my head. Cartimar TJ, Gold and I picked up Marie and Mayu and we were off to Cartimar to see some dogs, aquarium fishes and bicycles. It's a place for hardcore hobbyists. Some of the dogs were the likes of mastiffs and huskies. I don't know how they cope with the hot and humid weather. It must be agonizing for them. The bicycles were not really high performance machines and I can understand why. An entry level race bike costs around $1500 or P60,000. That's just too much money for a bike in a country suffering from foreign exchange rates. The 'high end' bikes are usually in the P30,000 range with name brand frames but sub-standard parts. Tagaytay The trip to Tagaytay took nearly 3 hours. We hooked up at Dencio's with TJ's friends, Ton, Sofia, Lin and Jay. Watching them bond gives a sense of the long and enduring friendship they've shared over many years. It's unfortunate Mayu could not blend in. She doesn't share their history and English remains a challenge. She was quiet for the most part. Deprived of sleep the day before, my body started demanding rest time. I had to sneak into TJ's car to doze off while the gang continued drinking. Even as we left Tagaytay, I continued to sleep in the car until we arrived home. Comments? ARCHIVE 2025:
