February 1, 2003 Saturday Kung HaI Fat Choy - Chinese New Year 2003 is the year of the Black Sheep. Charming, elegant and artistic, sheep are often envied for their success. The Cuyegkengs, a long time family friend, invited me and my kids to our first Chinese New Year party! The familiar faces were there in celebration of the event. The food was overflowing. There was even a whole roasted pig on the table. I ate with abandon until I could feel my stomach stretch at the seams. Towards the end, my kids got a red envelope with lucky-money. It's not meant to be spent but to be left in the wallet so that more money comes in. As a parting present, I received 3 bamboo plants tied together in a pebble/water-filled vessel. Bamboos are known for its compatibility and luck. I trust that with proper care of the plants, good luck will shine upon me for the next 365 days. Gambling, Gods and LSD I received an email from the OM organizers about a Sumkids event converging music and cinema.
Seeing old acquaintances and meeting new ones is always a highlight of any event. This one is no exception. What I found interesting was yoga at 7AM. I even brought my yoga mat with me. However, dancing/watching/talking until the morning took its toll on me. When 7AM finally arrived, I was exhausted and sleepy. I was in no position to do any kind of yoga and had to call it a day....a complete day.
