![]() October 29, 2002 Tuesday Town Hall After months (maybe even years) of deliberating, brainstorming, carefully weighing ramifications and analyzing repercussions by a committee of think-tanks in gray suits about AIM's branding initiative after acquiring Trimark, the company gathered all for a town hall to proclaim the new brand. The occasion was special enough to warrant moving the venue to the Performing Arts Center where cocktails and hors d'oeuvre were served after all the presentations were made: the CEO, the chief investment officer (CIO) - explaining to us where the market has been and how we fared relative to competition, the sales SVP - telling us...actually reporting to us what the sales numbers have been, but more like thanking us for making the job of his people easier. Amongst the lot, I think he's the most people-person. It's not surprising he's the top dog in sales. It's nearly impossible to be a good salesman if you're not a people-person yourself. I should know. I was with sales for a good number of years before I realized I'm not exactly a people-person - so now I design websites. All the SVPs were there for an open question-and-answer session after the speeches were made. I appreciate that part. Kinda like a politician saying to the taxpayers that he is accountable to you. And now the fun part - cocktails. I have to watch it though especially with free booze. Just 2 days earlier, I had a hangover as big as a watermelon. Besides, my kids go swimming later this evening with me. Hors d'oeuvre wasn't bad specially when served by what looks like struggling actresses early in their chosen careers. Later, I joined the French group for a livelier tête-a-tête. The adage is true: the French have heart. Oh yeah...the new brand! Drum roll please... click here. Did I say the cocktails were great?
