![]() Philippine Connection - July 31, 2002 Wednesday Polilio Island - Day 3 We woke up too early for today's 10AM pick-up by Ruben, which afforded us ample time to explore the town by foot. Ruben showed up on time and we we're off to the same place. Lunch was canned sardines while dinner was another makeshift chicken on a spit over coconut charcoal. I had to hand it over to Ferd. He enjoyed cooking and certainly knew his stuff. I think we even talked mostly about food and cooking the entire time. Just before sundown is ideal to finally take a dip. Polilio being an undeveloped resort island, land is cheap - P40,000 (CAN$1300) can get you a hectare of land with mature coconut trees and ready-to-market fruits. With roads going to Quezon Province already paved from Manila, it's only a matter of time 'til people from Manila start going to Quezon as the alternative to the already commercialized beaches of Batangas.
