![]() Philippine Connection - July 21, 2002 Sunday To make up for my pigging out, I resumed my normal morning workout - rope skipping, abs and bull worker until I was sweating like a hog. Having cancelled my plans to go north due to inclement weather, I was essentially stuck in Quezon City. Surprisingly, I received a text message from Marielle, whom I've met at the Ateneo gym 2 weeks back. We agreed to meet for some afternoon java Tuesday afternoon at Starbucks. Glorietta Mall Dad gave me a lift to the MRT station for my trip to Glorietta Mall in Makati, another sort-of upscale mall, where I chanced on a Tae-kwon-do competition. I just walked around getting amused at new things. I took the chance to watch a local movie, "Kapalit". I hope that movie is not the benchmark for Philippine movies, otherwise I would be led to conclude that the film industry has not matured in the last 17 years - sloooow, bad acting and utterly predictable (just another variation of a long-used and overtired theme). I wish Lino Brocka were still around making films. The rest of the afternoon was used walking around, treating myself to snacks I've missed all these years - cuapao, Mongolian barbeque, Sukiyaki, etc. --- TheLoneRider July 20, 2002»» next story ARCHIVE 2025:
