Philippine Connection - July 14, 2002 Sunday Los Baños 2 There is something to be said when it's a bit on the chilly side, raining, and you're doing laps on a naturally heated outdoor pool at 7 AM when the pool is entirely yours. The rain hasn't stopped overnight which fueled our apprehension about flooding en route. Fortunately, new arrivals from Manila told us the flooding has subsided. On the way back, TJ and I made 2 stopovers. First was the Lapid's, reputed to have the best freshly popped chicharon (pork rinds). Although it went counter to my diet program, I indulged anyway. It was worth it. Second stop was to do a driving tour inside the most prestigious and most expensive neighborhood in Quezon City: Corinthian Gardens. It's wrapped within a fortified wall with heavy security. Not surprisingly, we were denied entry. With the unrelenting rain, we just stayed home the rest of the afternoon, pigging-out on chicharon, buko pie and espasol - delicacies purchased along the way from Los Baños.
