Negros Oriental Real Estate Website Sep 28, 2010

Negros Oriental Real Estate Website

An AHA Idea
While looking for a P1000/month nipa hut (which is like a needle in a haystack), I met a realtor who told me she has a number of properties she's selling, but rely entirely on word of mouth. Immediately, I had an aha! moment. I'm a web designer specializing in search-engine-optimization (SEO) and a fairly proficient GPS user. Why not develop a realty website where realtors can post their listings and command a global audience instead of word-of-mouth? And it won't be just any run-of-the-mill website. It has to be a state-of-the-art site that includes the following features:

  • W3C-compliant CSS and HTML coding
  • Search Engine Optimized (SEO) property listings
  • GPS-mapping embedded on the webpage using the live and interactive capability of Google Map. I don't know of any other realty site using this.
  • Grandmother-proof intuitive navigation
  • Comprehensive information enabling users to make an informed decision

Site Launching
The lure of money actually never occured to me as I already considered it a given at the very outset. I wasn't chasing money as I was chasing perfection. The entire time I was developing the site (even up to now), I lived and breathed it. I would dream it and wake up with my mind racing about fresh new ideas I could enhance the site with. With every passing day, I would find ways to make it a little better than yesterday. Now, it's ready for public consumption offering dirt-cheap pricing until I can populate it with a good number of listings.

A Turn Around
This is uncanny. Before this, I was into my vow of poverty, walking away from money. That's until the money ran out and I found myself strapped for cash and loaning from people whose trust I've earned. Even then, that was humiliating for me. I don't mind loaning friends money, but me making a loan? This is the first time it has happened and I simply cannot get used to it. Something had to give, or change. And that's when I met the realtor who gave me this idea.

Ending Thoughts
I never considered money a bad thing. My poverty was simply an exercise with as little of it as possible. Money is a tool. It can be used for good or bad. With this new paradigm of wealth building, I open myself to the new opportunities money can provide. I have a chance to realize my vision of a social enterprise making every stakeholder a net-winner. It doesn't have to be a zero-sum game the way its currently played and I'm out to prove my point.
