$11 Integrity

When I was still working on my office coffee service (OCS) business in Canada, I'd make regular coffee pick-ups from my local roaster. On one occassion, they failed to account for one box, worth $11. I grinned inside me thinking I'll end up having a free box of coffee. Woo-hoo! I rationalized that it's not my fault anyway - the roaster should have been sharper on his counting.

That incident happened many years ago but to this day, I'm still haunted by my reproach. Everytime I think about that episode, the self-embarrassment reduces me to insignificance. The roaster's wrong math didn't give me the license to be dishonest.

Thought Bubble: Integrity should be priceless, but I sold mine for eleven (11) miserable dollars.

TheLoneRider "Forgive yourself" -- Michael Fazackerley

(Nov 15, 2009) Ah...forgiveness. That word haunts me at every corner. Someday, I'll come to terms with it. Thank you again, my friend.

(Nov 15, 2010) There is a matching lesson that goes with this one dear friend: Forgive yourself. It is a lesson I am not good at heeding, which is why I feel fairly certain it must be an important one.
