Funky Flow Yoga with Lora Lorenzo at YogaOneThatIWant Studios July 27, 2016

Funky Flow Yoga with Lora Lorenzo at YogaOneThatIWant Studios

Yoga Teacher: Lora Lorenzo (200-RYT | 500-RYT)
Location: Hippie Hub branch (YogaOneThatIWant Studios)
Address: G16 Block 3, Level G, Perdana Emerald Condominium, Lot 6, Jalan PJU 8/3, Damansara Perdana
GPS waypoint: 3°09'53.3"N 101°36'32.0"E

Circa 2013
Lora and I go back to 2013 when she attended my yoga class at Holiday Spa in Davao, Philippines. Through Facebook, we kept in touch. With her invite to crash at her place when in Kuala Lumpur, I didn't pass up the chance. It was an opportune chance to touch base with her and catch up with what's happening to the fabulous Davao yoga community.

Life at Mid Valley
I've always defaulted to Chinatown when in Kuala Lumpur since it's where I can find the cheap bunk beds - all 3 visits. Lora's invite to crash at her place in Mid Valley was a refreshing departure from wantan-mees and teh tarik. Lora would prepare sumptuous plated sandwiches for breakfast that made me feel I was at a fine dining restaurant. From the 17th floor of her condo, the view of the skyline and the illuminated freeways was visually stunning - it reminded me of NY's skyline from Brooklyn Heights...back in the day. I also met her husband Mio who packed street-smarts with technical know-how - interesting guy with interesting life adventures. Since the condo is beside the Mid Valley Megamall, it was mall-life for me, hopping from cafe to cafe, in search of a working area to do my online work. I welcomed the change.

Funky Flow Yoga
Lora has come a long way from 2013. She now teaches yoga at Hippie Hub with looming possibilities for more teaching gigs. Me, I just came from a yoga immersion in Ubud where I practiced in different studios with different teachers employing different styles. We were both yoga-stoked! I couldn't wait to be on the mat with her - but this time, she'd be the teacher and I'd be the student.

Funky Flow Yoga with Lora Lorenzo at YogaOneThatIWant Studios
twin 8-Angle Pose

It was full house in Hippie Hub for Lora's Funky Flow Vinyasa class. She prepared something unique and interesting. The session was sprinkled with asymetrical poses - one hand and the other forearm are both on the mat as we did arm balances and Warrior transitions. I had no muscle memory on such poses so they were all challenging. Her cuing was detailed with a little light-hearted humor to bring the smile back while doing a difficult pose.

Ending Thoughts
My coming to Kuala Lumpur was to process my Chinese visa for a Beijing trip - that didn't happen. I was told to go back to the Philippines and have it done there. No way. I thought I would be hanging out with good friend Julia Clarette...but she was somewhere else. Fortunately, meeting with Lora materialized. Always, something wonderful happens...that has always been a repeating pattern. Like water finding its own level, I found myself in the company of a yogini whom I haven't seen in 3 years...and even crashing at her place. The bonding with Lora and Mio went a long waaays. I'm glad to have spent time with them and connect from across the table (instead of online). Lora and Mio, thank you so much for hosting me. It was fun, it was memorable and it was great bonding!

I don't think I've seen the last of Kuala Lumpur as it serves as jumping board to other fascinating destinations in Malaysia I haven't been to yet (Langkawi, Perhentian Islands, Taman Negara, Teranganu, Kedah, Kelantan, etc.). With cheap flights c/o skyscanner, I'm always open to Malaysian possibilities.

Next stop: Malacca, Malaysia
