Another Corporate Day

My body was still sore from the weekend's race. I was hurting for SLEEP and FULL REST! But duty called at the office. I had to wake up very early to be in at 6:30 AM to finish presentation materials for the 11 AM meeting with the veep. And so I did, doing HMTL on the new UUP pages. I barely participated in the Monday morning meeting so that I'll have ample time to finish the presentation materials. At exactly 11AM, the meeting time, with no second left to spare, I finished photocopying the last of the more than 70 sheets I had to distribute to the 8 or so participants. I returned to my desk to staple them and saw an incoming email on my Outlook. It's from my manager saying, "Meeting postponed".

Sigh...another corporate day.

It's funny how you mention such an occasion as "another corporate day". To the microcosm of people at a corporation are in every way similar in function to the macrocosm of the world at large. The maelstrom of people, priorities, celebrations, disappointments, meetings, weddings and battles all mesh in such a chaotic unpredictable manner that none of us really knows what is next and when.

When I read your entry the old boy scout motto sounded off in my head: "always be prepared". That's all any of us can do because life is inherently unpredictable. Far too many of use waste a great deal of time and energy trying to make it otherwise. I'll add a bit to the boy scout credo and say "be prepared to enjoy the ride". - Faz
