Dive, Chill, Fun and Sun with Liquid Dumaguete - photo by Kin Soon Cheong Jun 9-14, 2015

Dive, Chill, Fun and Sun with Liquid Dumaguete

GPS waypoint: N 09° 12.684 E 123° 17.082
Location: Just after Km. 12 (enter road on Petron Gas Station), Dauin, Negros Oriental, Philippines 6217

All in One at Liquid
Liquid Dumaguete is an oasis along the Dauin coastline, fronting the unique hot springs within the Mainit Marine Reserve. That alone makes for a compelling stay. But there's more. They offer a bundled package from lodging, meals, and dives - making Liquid a one-stop destination for all your needs in the Dauin area.

Paradise in Dauin
I couldn't think of a better way to impress my Vietnamese guest, Tuyen, than to have her stay at Liquid Dumaguete. We had a rustic cottage with a spacious veranda within a manicured cul-de-sac by the beach. Sumptuous food at the restaurant was tailored to the Western palate with attention to plating. Serving size for the entire dinner course was more than filling. For dives, it's first-rate, being a recognized PADI 5-star IDC Resort.

Tim and Zoe
Hands-on owners Tim and Zoe have done their fair share of dives and backpacking across Southeast Asia for years before settling-in in Dauin to put up their own shop. Their years of experience is clearly visible in the way they run Liquid Dumaguete - the dives, the resto, the bar and the bungalows are well-organized and professionally run. Confidence is high when you let Liquid Dumaguete handle your itinerary.

Fun Dives to Bulak and Masaplod Norte
A stay in Liquid is not complete without taking out a dive with them. I joined them on the much dive at Bulak and at the reef dive in Masaplod Norte, both in Dauin. Dauin is featured as one of the best diving spots in the world by reputable dive publications and coffee table books. True enough, the dives did not disappoint. The marine life was intense and the reef system was still very much intact despite the typhoons that hit Negros Oriental in the last few years.

Off to Apo Island
Tuyen and I could have stayed at Liquid forever. But Apo Island beckons and another chapter in our travels await. Liquid was generous enough to give us a lift on one of their boats heading to Apo Island (for more Liquid dives). Thank you Tim and Zoe! Our stay at Liquid Dumaguete made our Dauin experience truly memorable.

How to Get to Dumaguete from Cebu City

From Cebu's South Bus Terminal you can take either:
  • Cebu to Dumaguete via Bato - this is farther and takes more time but more convenient specially if you carry baggage. It's only one ride which includes a ferry crossing from Bato (Cebu) to Tampi (Negros) and you get off at the Ceres Bus Terminal in Dumaguete. P270 including barge fee, 6 hours
  • Cebu via Liloan - this is quicker but involves 3 separate rides: bus ride from Cebu to Liloan, ferry ride across Tanon Strait, then a jeep/bus ride from Sibulan to Dumaguete. If you don't have luggage, this route is recommended
