The playa has a 2-mile radius. It is best explored by bicycle. Standard playa equipment are a wide-rim hat for sun protection, goggles (not just sun glass) and air filter - sand storms are hellacious and unpredictable. You also need to carry a hydration system and snacks. A 'short walk' into the playa can turn into an overnight adventure.
